Study in United Kingdom International Academy is an authorized recruitment consultant for many UK colleges and universities and representing most of the UK education sectors. IA is an independent organization established in January 2001 and has a network of associates around world including 4 offices in India - Cochin, Calicut, Kottayam and Trivandrum.
A high degree of sophistication, a matchless charm, and above all, educational quality that's backed by centuries of tradition, the United Kingdom is just the right place to give your career that global edge.
In addition to the hallowed Oxford and Cambridge, UK has a large number of other universities which rank among the best in the world and offer a wide range of courses.
One major advantage of U.K. education is its one-year Masters Degree for almost all courses, saving you considerable time and money. Also, unlike those in other countries, most UK universities recognize the Indian education system of 3 year graduation.
British Education has long attracted and welcomed high caliber students of different nationalities and backgrounds, and today builds on hundreds of years of experience in providing quality education to international students. To ensure that the quality is maintained, Britain has implemented unrivalled quality assurance and academic audit systems. The university departments are obliged to meet stringent standards by professional bodies. Standards are high not just in teaching but in other facilities as well: Libraries, computers, research equipment and living accommodation.
British higher and further education provides value for money by offering shorter, more intensive courses than are available in many other countries, thereby reducing living expenses and time spent away from home. Closely supervised study in an intellectually and culturally stimulating environment, together with an emphasis on student welfare and close contact between staff and students also ensures that individual students get maximum support and, as a result, pass rates are high and the drop-out rate for international students is very low.
Britain has long been a popular destination for Indian students. With more than 150 institutes of higher education to choose from, all equipped with extensive facilities, Britain is able to offer a broad spectrum of subjects from the highly academic to the purely practical in anything from architecture to zoology.
The UK is made up of 4 different countries - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The education system in Scotland differs at school and undergraduate level to the other countries that follow a similar system. Education in the UK is compulsory for everyone between the ages of five and sixteen, and is provided by two kinds of schools: independent (fee-charging) schools and state-funded schools.
Education System in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
The UK education system includes following main sections
Primary School
Children normally start school at the age of 5 and move to secondary school at the age of 11. Pre-school programmes are also available to students at the age of 3 or 4.
Secondary School and Post-Sixteen Education
All UK schools teach students to at least the age of 16 to prepare them for GSCEs or equivalent qualifications. Following this students can stay on to study for AS levels (one additional year), A levels (2 additional years) or equivalent vocational qualifications. These qualifications can be done in a school, sixth- form college or college of further education.
Post Eighteen Education
Students normally commence higher education at the age of 18 and study at university or colleges of further and higher education. A Bachelor degree programme normally lasts for 3-4 years, a Masters degree programme for 1 year and a Doctoral degree programme for 3-4 years.
The UK government is currently aiming for 50% of students to continue in education after the age of 18.
Education System in Scotland
The education system in Scotland is slightly different that the rest of the UK and the main differences are as follows:
- Students can enter university at the age of 17 rather than 18 as university courses in Scotland are normally one year longer than in England.
- Students sit Standard Grades rather than GCSEs.
- Students sit Highers and Advanced Highers rather than AS levels and A levels.
- Between the ages of 16-18 years students in Scotland often study a broader curriculum than in other parts of the UK and often do not specialise in the sciences, arts, humanities until they enter university.
