Study Cost

You must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while you're studying in New Zealand (a requirement of the Ministry of Education's Code of Practice). Student permit holders are generally not eligible for publicly funded health and disability services. An average medical insurance cover for a single student would cost approximately NZ$500-600 per year.

The living expenses and tuition costs in New Zealand are considerably less expensive than the United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA) and Australia.

The average international student in NZ spends about $8000 to $10000per year on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transport, international and domestic travel, and telephone and incidental costs. But this may vary with individual, location, course and lifestyle. To be granted a student visa in NZ you must show that you have enough money to pay for living expenses, education costs and travel for the duration of the course. You can start to work part-time after you have commenced your studies in NZ, but the money you earn should not be used as your only source of income.

Tuition Fees (NZ $) As an international student, you must pay your tuition fees up-front. Aside from tuition fees, some institutions may also charge for other student costs, such as library, laboratory or sports facility costs. Excursions, books and stationery are other costs to consider, and your course may also require specific essential materials, such as lab coats or photographic supplies. Your institution will provide you with information on how and when to pay your tuition fees.
